Sugar Free No Bake Chocolate Slice
Sugar Free No Bake Chocolate Slice topped with dark chocolate and desiccated coconut

This is ideal for a snack or for afternoon tea with a cup of tea or coffee, it reminds me of a slice we used to eat when I was young called hedgehog, a low carb version of course. You simply cannot go wrong with this recipe. It is full of flavor and is quite rich, so there is no need to eat a large portion of this. I recommend freezing some so that you have an instant snack on hand when you need it. I always take a snack like this when I go out for the day so that there is no excuse to be tempted by the sugar loaded or high carb foods that you generally find in shops and restaurants.

This recipe is very versatile so feel free to switch ingredients around. You could switch the almond meal for walnut meal. You could also switch the walnuts for macadamias or almonds. Whilst I love the taste of this made with butter, you might want to reduce your butter and increase the coconut oil if that is your preference. You could also increase the amount of cacao used if you would prefer it more chocolatey or if you don’t have cacao, use cocoa instead. I would make it first though before you make any changes as you may find you like it just as it is.

Just remember that cocoa is processed and cacao isn’t, so if you are after all of the benefits to be had from cacao such as antioxidants etc. I would try to cacao if you can. If you want to do a little more reading on the difference between cacao and cocoa, you can read this article The difference between Cacao and Cocoa.

So farewell those chocolate biscuits!

I love this recipe because if you have visitors it’s quick and easy to make . I always have it in my fridge.

    1. I’ve never made it without it but you could use additional butter in its place. Let me know how it turns out. Karen

    This is delicious .

Is the nutritional value for the whole slice or each piece?

I am new to this so getting a little confused.

    1. Thanks Lisa.
Nutritional values for most recipes in general are per serve. Most of us also specify whether it’s for the whole recipe, a serve or a slice. With my nutritional values, deduct the fibre from the carbs for ‘net carbs (the carbs your body will digest.)
      I hope this helps.

I have a sweet tooth and adore chocolate especially hedgehog slice. This slice is very similar and I just love it. I am feeling much better on the keto diet, still losing weight and loving being able to indulge my chocolate craving.

    1. THanks so much Jan. It’s great to know you can still enjoy sweet treats like this on a low carb/keto diet. This type of food is what helps me stick to this way of eating. Kxx
